How to Measure Cabinet Pulls

Cabinet bar pull showing the center-to-center (C-C) measurement
  1. 1

Measure from the center of one screw hole to the center of the other.

  2. 2

This center-to-center distance determines the pull size you need.

  3. 3

Replacing an old pull? Choose the same C-C size for an easy fit.

Tip: Use a ruler or tape measure for best results.

Measure Before You Order

Make sure your new pulls fit the first time. Our quick guide shows you how to measure center-to-center — the one number you need to match.

Where to Place Cabinet Pulls

Use these common placement guidelines for a clean, balanced look.

Drawers

Pull placement on cabinet drawers

Small drawers: one pull centered. Wide drawers: one long pull or two pulls.

Upper Cabinet Doors

Pull placement on upper cabinet doors

Place pulls near the lower corner. Keep the same distance from the edge.

Lower Cabinet Doors

Pull placement on lower cabinet doors

Place pulls near the upper corner. Keep placement consistent across doors.

Pro tip: Use painter’s tape or a hardware template before drilling.

Consistent spacing creates a cleaner, more professional look.

FAQ

1. What does "center-to-center" mean?

Center-to-center is the distance between the centers of the two screw holes on a pull. It’s also called C-C or hole spacing. If you’re replacing existing pulls, this is the key measurement to match.

2. How do I measure for replacement pulls?

Remove your old pull, or look at the back of the drawer, and measure from the center of one screw hole to the center of the other. Don’t measure the full length of the pull — the center-to-center size is what determines the fit.

3. Will new pulls cover my old screw holes?

Yes, as long as you order the same center-to-center size. The new pull should line up with your existing holes. If you choose a different size, you’ll need to drill new holes and fill the old ones.

4. The pull is 6 inches long but listed as 5". Why?

The listed size usually refers to the center-to-center measurement, not the overall length. The full pull is always a little longer because the screw holes sit in from the ends.

5. Do the pulls come with screws?

Yes. Both 25mm and 40mm mounting screws are included. Use the screw length that best fits the thickness of your cabinet door or drawer front.

6. What size should I pick for drawers vs. doors?

Cabinet doors usually work well with a 3" or 3-3/4" pull, or a knob. Standard drawers often look best with 3-3/4" to 5" pulls. Wider drawers, especially pot-and-pan drawers, usually look better with 6-5/16" or longer pulls.

7. Where on the drawer or door should the pull go?

On drawers, pulls are usually centered left to right. On cabinet doors, pulls are typically placed near the opening edge — near the top corner on lower cabinets and near the bottom corner on upper cabinets.

8. I have round knobs now and want to switch to bar pulls. Can I just swap them?

Not directly. A knob uses one screw hole, while a pull uses two. You’ll need to drill a second hole and fill the original one if it doesn’t line up. For the easiest replacement, match your current hardware type and hole spacing.

9. How many pulls do I need for a whole kitchen?

Count each cabinet door and drawer. Most doors and drawers use one pull or knob each, while drawers over 30" wide may use two. We recommend ordering a few extras in case you need spares later.

10. Will the finish match if I order more later?

The same product and finish should match closely, but small batch differences can happen over time. For a full kitchen or whole-home project, it’s best to order everything at once.
