What the 3-inch measurement tells you
For cabinet pulls, the 3-inch measurement describes the distance between the two mounting holes, measured from center to center. It is not the total length of the handle. Three inches equals 76.2 mm, so product options may also show this size as 76 mm.
If your old holes have the same spacing, you can usually reuse them. That makes 3-inch cabinet pulls useful for updating older kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities and furniture without drilling a new pattern. Fit still depends on more than the holes. Check the width of the mounting feet, the projection, the screw length and the full handle length before ordering.
Remove one old pull and measure the bare holes rather than measuring across the handle. The cabinet pull measurement guide shows exactly where to place the ruler.
Why some 3-inch pulls look longer
The handle can extend past both mounting posts, so a pull with 3-inch centers may be noticeably longer from end to end. This is useful when you want to keep the existing holes but prefer a handle with more visual length.
Look for the overall length in the product drawing or size chart. Do not rely on the collection name alone. Two pulls with the same hole spacing can have different overall lengths, mounting feet and hand clearance.
Where this size works well
Three-inch drawer pulls are often chosen for replacement jobs because many older cabinets and furniture pieces already have this hole pattern. They can work on kitchen cabinet doors, smaller drawers, bathroom vanities, dressers, nightstands and built-in storage.
For a dresser or painted furniture piece, matching the old holes avoids extra drilling. It also reduces the chance of damaging the existing finish. Check whether the new pull covers any outline or discoloration left by the old one.
A wide or heavy drawer may feel better with a longer pull. You can still keep the same finish and design family while using a larger center-to-center size on wider fronts. If you are drilling new holes, test the position with painter's tape and review the cabinet pull placement guide first.
Finish and shape
The collection includes black, brushed nickel, brass, gold and vintage bronze options, along with straight bar pulls, T-bars and more decorative drawer handles. Availability varies by product and size.
Black stands out clearly on white and light wood. Brushed nickel is quieter and works easily with stainless steel appliances. Brass and gold add warmth, while bronze suits darker wood and traditional furniture. The cabinet hardware finish guide has more detailed finish comparisons.
Before you order
Measure the existing holes, then compare the overall length, mounting-foot width, projection and screw length. Make sure the correct size variant is selected on the product page. If the old pull left visible marks, wider mounting feet or a compatible backplate may cover them, but a backplate will not correct the wrong hole spacing.
For a larger project, test one pull on the actual cabinet or drawer before ordering the full quantity.
